A DUNBAR man has appeared in court to plead not guilty to police assault.

Robbie Gemmell was at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday, where he faced allegations including assaulting PC Cara Miller by striking her on the body.

He is also alleged to have resisted, obstructed or hindered two police constables by walking away from them and refusing to comply with their requests during an alleged incident at West Road, Haddington.

Gemmell, 25, is also facing allegations of kicking out with his legs and struggling with the officers during the arrest procedure on July 1.

A third charge alleges that Gemmell, of Boroughdales, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by acting in an aggressive manner, shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence and offensive remarks while on a journey to St Leonard’s Police Station in Edinburgh.

Solicitor Angela Craig appeared for Gemmell last Thursday and lodged not guilty pleas to all the alleged offences.

Gemmell is due to stand trial in February next year.
