YOU scream, I scream, all the children of East Lothian will scream for ice cream next week, when Simpsons Tranent hands out 500 free desserts to celebrate one year in business.

The Simpsons Tranent van was purchased from the original Simpsons Ice Cream Van business in June 2021 by Natalie Scanlon.

Natalie, 25, operates and runs the ice cream van as a family business with her parents Claire and Peter Scanlon.

She told the Courier: “The favourite memory we have of the ice cream van is when we attended Cockenzie primary seven leavers’ disco and the kids were so shocked and surprised by us coming they just came running straight up to the van.

“It was the sheer joy on their faces that made our day.”

Natalie lives in Tranent with her parents and younger brother.

Next Monday (July 25), the Simpsons ice cream van will give away 500 free cones and tubs to children outside Ross High School between 6pm and 8pm.

Each child will receive a scoop with sauce and sprinkles included.

The event, which is ticketed, is limited to one ice cream per child and a maximum of five children per family.

Simpsons Tranent visits Tranent, Port Seton, Macmerry, Ormiston, Elphinstone and New Winton every week offering ice cream, sweet treats and cold drinks.
