A NORTH Berwick sporting institution makes its return next week after an enforced hiatus as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Calder Cup, a putting competition with over a century of history in the town, returns to East Links Putting Green for the first time since 2019 to celebrate its centenary edition.

The centenary was supposed to be held in 2020, but postponements caused by the pandemic have delayed the celebrations until this year.

The contest is organised by North Berwick Community Council (NBCC) and its members were glad to see it finally return after the upheaval of the last few years.

Kathryn Smith, secretary of NBCC, was delighted to see the competition's return and hoped to see a great turnout to mark the momentous occasion.

She said: "We’re delighted that we’re able to host the competitions this year having missed the centenary of the trophy in 2020 and last year because of Covid.

"We are hoping it will be a successful and enjoyable competition with a good turnout of competitors and good weather."
