PRIMARY school pupils who finished in the top 10 of a national competition have been congratulated by an MSP.
Youngsters at Gullane Primary School were among 29 teams from across Scotland taking part in the Euroquiz National Final at the Scottish Parliament.
The P6 class finished in 10th spot at the quiz, which sees teams of pupils tested on their knowledge of European history, geography, sport, culture, languages and the European Union.
Martin Whitfield, South Scotland MSP, was unable to attend the event in Holyrood due to a prior commitment but the former Dirleton Primary School teacher visited nearby Gullane Primary before the summer holidays to offer his congratulations.
He said: “The Euroquiz is a prestigious event that tests teams’ knowledge and understanding of information and facts about Europe and its nations.
“The team from Gullane did brilliantly to make it all the way to the final and represent East Lothian at the Scottish Parliament.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to visit the school, congratulate the pupils on their achievement and hear more about their day out at Holyrood.
“While they didn’t quite manage to win on the day, reaching the final was a fantastic effort and the team members and their schoolmates can all be very proud of their achievement.”
