HUNDREDS turned out to pay respects and say goodbye to a much-loved Tranent man, who died last month, on his final journey through his beloved hometown.

Cal Clark, 28, died after he was struck by a taxi on the A1 near Macmerry just after midnight on June 5.

Emergency services were called out but the window cleaner was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Saturday, a celebration of Cal’s life took place at Foresters Park at 10.30am, with several mourners dressed in green in honour of his favourite football team, Hibernian FC.

That was then followed by a procession through the town as hundreds joined in Cal’s final journey to Tranent Cemetery.

Lee Rollo Stewart, on behalf of the Clark family, said: “The family would like to thank everyone who came to Tranent Juniors and for making Cal’s final journey a great send-off.

“They would like to thank you all for the kindness and love you have shown at this difficult time.

“Cal may be away now, but Cal will never be forgotten, as no one can ever take your memories away as they are kept locked away.”

Lee told the Courier that the day had been “fantastic” and that it was “blessed the sun was out and the weather good”.

She added that police, alongside East Lothian Council’s road team, kept crowds and traffic moving smoothly during the day.

She estimated hundreds to be in attendance, with 600 of 630 memory cards – which had a picture of Cal and the quote “to the angels high above” on them – handed out.

About 30 of the cards were kept for family members.

North Berwick Pipe Band led Cal on his final journey along High Street to Tranent Cemetery at noon.
