A fortnightly indoor Saturday market could become a feature at the Hollies Community Hub in Musselburgh.

Hub bosses are considering the idea and are keen to get feedback from the local community.

A spokesperson said: “We are looking for the people of Musselburgh and surrounding areas to share with us what matters to them about an indoor, fortnightly Saturday market in our large hall. We are looking for your ideas to include in our market manifesto and vision.

“For example, what times would suit you? Does a fortnightly market suit and what kind of stalls would you like to see? We are looking to provide what you want.

“We would be opening our cafe for the same Saturday hours as the traders. On sale would be hot filled rolls, cakes, scones, teas and coffees.

“We will be setting high standards for our traders, event organisers and our staff to deliver the very best market possible.”

Stalls suggested range from a nail bar, fruit and vegetables, to arts and crafts, and phone covers and cases.

The hub would be happy to hear from members of the public and traders, who should email holliesmus selburgh@hotmail.co.uk

The market is part of a major fundraising campaign to support the Hollies, which has been hit with a cash crisis which sparked fears of closure.

A Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), it relies on funding from outside agencies, and applications to funders so far this year had been unsuccessful.

A recent lifeline was thrown to the facility, which has provided services for elderly people for 60 years, with an injection of £32,000 from Musselburgh Common Good Fund.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up and a petition launched urging local people to get behind the campaign to save the Hollies Community Hub, which also has a public cafe.

Jumble sales have been held and singer Fiona Grant-MacDonald will perform in St Michael’s Church Hall, Dalrymple Loan, on Friday, August 5. Tickets are on sale at the Hollies.
