Concern was raised after nails were found on the beach at Musselburgh where a wooden pallet had been burnt.
A social media post warned people to be on their guard on the Back Sands.
A spokesperson for East Lothian Council said: “Responsible fire lighting is a key focus for East Lothian Countryside Ranger Service when engaging with visitors to our coastline.
"Our advice to anyone visiting our beaches is to leave nothing behind but their footprints.”
