A HOLIDAY cottage offering “an excellent location for active holidays” has been given the go-ahead.
Existing stables at Newlands Farmhouse, south of Gifford, will make way for the one-storey accommodation.
East Lothian Council’s planning department approved the proposals after no objections.
Documents included with the application from Sam Gray note the range of activities on offer throughout the county, with hopes that the new property will act as a base.
It reads: “East Lothian is a very popular destination for holidays and in particular active holidays.
“These include walking, hiking, cycling, riding, golf and all the water sports for both fresh water and seawater.
“It has been particularly noticeable how many more people there are (both locals and tourists from further afield) in the hills and on the coastline since the pandemic began.
“Newlands is an excellent location for active holidays.
“It is situated at the base of the Lammermuir Hills, with popular walks such as the Newlands Hill Circular and the Newlands Strip on the doorstep.
“It is possible to walk into the hills directly from the site up the adjacent farm track.
“It is only a short drive to the East Lothian coastline around Dunbar, a popular location for watersports.
“East Lothian is famous for its golf courses, many of which are within easy reach of Newlands.
“There are also cultural attractions nearby such as the National Museum of Flight, the Scottish Seabird Centre and Glenkinchie Distillery.”
The property includes two bedrooms, as well as a kitchen and living area.
Outdoor seating and a barbecue area are also to be provided.
