A FIRE took hold of a garden at a residential property in Prestonpans last night.

The property, on High Street, was partially damaged after a garden shed caught fire at around 7.45pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.46pm on Monday, May 23 to reports of a fire within a garden at High Street, Prestonpans.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a garden and a back door of a two-storey terraced property.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Sam Russell, owner of Paws Pet Shop on High Street, returned to her shop at around 8.15pm after being notified of the fire.

She told the Courier that the fire was accidental and that her premises, which neighbours the home, was not damaged in the incident.

She added: "The people living in the home are fine.

"It was a faulty appliance I believe.

"There was two fire engines and everyone was evacuated safely before they arrived.

"They are back in the house now, there is a little damage to the house but everyone is safe."

East Lothian Courier: Drone footage shows firefighters tackling the blaze at a property on Prestonpans High Street.

Aleksandra Bryzgalska, who lives nearby, witnessed the fire when she was leaving the Co-op on the High Street.

She told the Courier: "I was coming back from the Co-op and I saw three police cars, a lot of police officers in place and a lot of smoke coming from one of the buildings.

"I didn't see exactly what building it was.

"Then the firefighters came.

"Two engines and I went to the back of the street together with other people and saw that the smoke was coming out from one of the houses.

"The fire crews fought with the fire well."
