OPERA East Lothian (OEL) returns to North Berwick on Saturday to perform a special Platinum Jubilee concert.

Two professional soloists, a 13-piece orchestra and a 30-strong choir come together at the town’s Abbey Church to perform an evening of coronation music by Handel to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

John Marshall, musical director at OEL, told the Courier: “We have come together again to sing this beautiful Baroque music at the Abbey Church.

“All of us have been through so much during the pandemic, I had a vision of celebration as we re-ignite our passion for music and performance in front of an audience who have similar experiences.

“Our audience deserves something very special.

“Handel’s Ode for St Cecilia’s Day, My Heart is Inditing, and of course, Zadok the Priest, is a natural choice for OEL’s return, because it allows our audience an opportunity to celebrate the platinum anniversary of a much-treasured monarch, reflect on both personal and national loss post-pandemic and an opportunity to reclaim our optimism for the future.”

The concerts starts at 7.15pm and tickets can be bought at Greens and Blues on North Berwick High Street, from a member of the chorus, or on the door, at a suggested donation of £15.
