A COCKENZIE drama group will return to the stage for the first time in two years to pay tribute to the much-loved former chairperson of Harlawhill Day Centre, who passed away last year.

Cockenzie Drama has confirmed it will fire up the stage lights once more following a hiatus due to Covid-19.

It will return with a play dedicated to Jean Thomson, the late founder of the Prestonpans day centre, who passed away in March last year at the age of 80.

Jean had been chairperson of the centre, on East Loan, for nearly 30 years and had been on the steering group a year before its doors opened in 1992.

Born in Prestonpans and living in Musselburgh, Jean was a familiar face at the centre, dedicating time and effort to support everyone there.

She also played a hand in writing the play What’s Next? with the help of Mary Vevers.

The drama group will dedicate their first performance of the comedy play to the mother-of-two, in what will be their first performance in two years.

They will take to the stage on May 31 and June 1 at 7.30pm at the Port Seton Centre. All proceeds (tickets £7) will be donated to Harlawhill Day Centre.

To buy tickets, contact a member of the drama group, email cockenziedrama@outlook.com or visit the Port Seton Centre.
