A BID to “ignite people’s personal creativity” is being offered through a series of events and activities.

MADE in East Lothian is launching a programme to engage the community in a new creative project.

Entitled ‘Creative Connections’, the six-month project is possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and will highlight the fundamental aims of MADE in East Lothian to support local makers and crafters, and promote its ethos of make, create and reuse.

The project launches with an open day next Saturday (March 26) at the MADE Arts Hub in Haddington.

Fiona Lambert, director and co-founder of MADE in East Lothian, said: “We’ve achieved a lot in six years and hope to develop even further.

“The aim of this year’s project is to spread the word, ignite people’s personal creativity, and demonstrate how a resource like MADE in East Lothian can benefit the whole community, especially in protecting the environment and benefiting people’s mental health and wellbeing.

“We also hope that the ideas board at the open day will generate ideas for a feasibility study to ascertain if the Hardgate premises can be purchased for redevelopment into a sustainable community arts space for the whole of East Lothian.”

The open day will feature storytelling from The Story Wagon, and demonstrations including recycled paper-making, how to make felt tip pen beads, and upcycling techniques.

There will also be an ideas board and an exhibition of past artwork, with future events planned throughout the summer.

MADE in East Lothian, based on Haddington’s Hardgate and getting ready to celebrate its sixth year, also offers a series of tutored creative art workshops every Saturday, ranging from jewellery-making to mixed media techniques, with eight free tutored workshops being offered throughout the summer as part of the ‘Creative Connections’ project.

The programme of events will also engage the many makers and artists in East Lothian, whose unique hand-made products can be purchased online or in the MADE Arts Hub gallery.

MADE in East Lothian is a Community Interest Company (CIC), which means that all profits are reinvested to benefit the community.
