GYM-GOERS could have a new place to get fit after plans for Tranent town centre were given the green light.

East Lothian Council’s planning department approved the plans for 115B High Street after no members of the public made any objection.

The only condition applied to Dean Johnstone’s proposals for the site – to the rear of Giancarlo’s Italian and Well Pharmacy – was for seven parking spaces to be drawn out.

The building was previously used as an office but the council gave the proposals the green light.

The planning officer’s report reads: “The use of the premises as a gymnasium would bring a vacant unit back into active use for visiting members of the public and would overall have a beneficial impact on the vitality and viability of Tranent town centre.”
