A SLIP road on the A1 at Dolphingstone will be closed overnight for several days next week.

Works to improve drainage along 3.8 kilometres southbound carriageway of the A1 between Old Craighall and Bankton is set to be completed over three nights beginning next Wednesday.

The final section of the works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland improve 800 metres of filter drain between Dolphingstone and Bankton.

During these works, the slip road onto the southbound A1 at Dolphingstone Junction will be closed between 7.30pm and 6am next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

A signed diversion route will be in place for southbound traffic wishing to join the A1 at Dolphingstone, via the A199, B1361 and A198 to rejoin the A1 at Bankton Junction.

This will add an estimated seven minutes and 2.3 miles to affected journeys.

Traffic travelling on the A1 southbound prior to the Dolphingstone on slip will remain unaffected.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These drainage improvements will improve safety for motorists using this section of the A1.

“It’s necessary for us to close the slip road to complete the job, however we’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption.”
