JOSH Taylor has clung onto his four world titles after taking a split decision victory over Jack Catterall.

The Prestonpans fighter came into the bout with a perfect record of 18-0.

However, he was far from his best at a packed OVO Hydro in Glasgow tonight (Saturday).

Catterall proved elusive throughout much of the fight and many in the venue had the Englishman as the winner at the end of the 12 rounds.

However, the judges scored the fight 113-112 to Catterall, 114-111 to Taylor, and 113-112 to Taylor.

Understandably, the home fans were delighted by the decision but it was a very, very close decision.

Taylor was fighting in Glasgow for the first time since he was crowned world champion for the first time.

That saw him take a points decision over Ivan Baranchyk to lift the IBF Light Welterweight title.

Speaking in the ring to Sky Sports after the bout, Taylor said: “I started a little slow but then I got back in my rhythm.

“He tried to spoil a lot.

“It wasn't my best performance, I put a lot of pressure on myself with it being my homecoming.

“But I believe I got the win 100 per cent."

It looked like the telling moment in the fight came in the eighth round.

Catterall scored a knockdown leaving Taylor seemingly facing an uphill battle.

Thirty-one-year-old Taylor certainly finished the fight the stronger and that proved crucial.

Both men raised their hands in victory at the end of the 12 rounds but it was the home favourite who was celebrating.

Taylor has spoken previously about making the step up in weight.

In the ring, he said that was “most likely” his last fight at 140lbs.

He said: "I made the weight good but it is getting harder to make the weight.

“That will most likely be my last fight at 140lbs."

That would mean no rematch for Catterall, who will feel he did enough to win the belts.
