A GROUP of serial egg throwers have targeted cars, tennis courts, people and homes in North Berwick over several months, according to police.

A number of youths from the town have been lobbing eggs at residents and property – and have thrown stones at a holiday home in the town, breaking a window.

In October, an incident involving eggs thrown at cars and people on East Road was reported to police.

In November, reports were made of additional incidents around the town.

On January 7, eggs were pelted at North Berwick Tennis Club courts – reports were also made of similar incidents occurring at the courts last September.

Judy Lockhart-Hunter, North Berwick Community Council chairperson, said: “It is beyond disappointing that eggs are being thrown at people, cars and windows throughout the town.

“NBCC had one family contact us who were staying at a holiday property. They were subject to a frightening evening of eggs and stones being thrown at a window, which ended up breaking.

“There were young children in the property at the time who were no doubt terrified.

“They were having a meal when eggs were thrown at the main living room window; after eggs ran out, stones were thrown and the window broke.

“The police came quickly and reassured the family, who were obviously all terrified.

“This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and cannot be allowed to continue.”
