A SECTION of the A1 will be shut next Thursday night (January 20) ahead of future resurfacing works.

Overnight coring investigations are planned for the westbound carriageway of the road at the Abbotsview Junction, Haddington.

The work will take place from 7.30pm on Thursday to 6am the following day.

During that time, traffic heading west on the A1 will be diverted off at the Abbotsview Junction’s off-slip before immediately returning to the road via the on-slip.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s network manager for the south east, said: “These coring investigation works are necessary to allow us to plan future carriageway resurfacing works.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption and the diversion is a short one, so we don’t expect any significant delays for traffic.”

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Emergency services will be allowed access through the works at all times.

The work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
