Pantomine fun is well underway in Musselburgh with The Brunton’s new production of the family favourite Hansel and Gretel.

Written and directed by award winning and experienced writer and theatre maker John Binnie, the live show will run until December 31.

His writing and directing is popular with Brunton audiences including Jack and the Beanstalk in 2018 and Cinderella in 2019.

In 2020 he wrote and directed Rapunzel The Pantomime – a family film, which was enjoyed by many schools and families who viewed it online during the festive period amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Hansel and Gretel creative team includes set and costume designer Robin Mitchell, musical director Tommie Travers and Amy Robinson as choreographer.

Auditions took place in September to recruit the talented young chorus who have joined the professional cast. The Brunton is also delighted to welcome back a few familiar and well loved faces amongst the professional cast. Eilidh Weir plays the role of Gretel with Ross Donnachie as her wee brother Hansel. Experienced panto dame, Graham Crammond, returns in the role of Dame Maisie Nature with panto baddy Wendy Seager as Witch Wart-Nose. Finlay Bain joins the cast as Echo.

The panto has been described as “a treat full of fun and laughter with oodles of gags, local references, chart hits, outrageous costumes and shouting out.”
