DRIVERS are being warned they will be fined if they breach a traffic ban outside Haddington schools.

Complaints were made to police about motorists ignoring the order on Neilson Park Road, which is home to Haddington Primary School.

Community officers were joined by small cardboard cut-outs – known as ‘the kid crew’ – in tackling the issue on Thursday, November 25.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stressed they would continue to tackle the problem.

They said: “The prohibition, with some exemptions, was introduced by East Lothian Council in 2018 in order to reduce vehicular traffic on certain roads during school term in Haddington. This is intended to make the area safer for children and other members of the public whilst travelling to and from school. Unfortunately, one driver was issued a fixed penalty ticket. Local officers will continue to monitor these roads.”

The traffic ban is also in place on Victoria Road and Wemyss Place, and is in force at pick-up and drop-off times throughout the school term.
