TINNED spaghetti, tinned fruit and toiletries are among the items being gathered by kind-hearted pupils at Knox Academy.

Pupils and staff at the secondary school are being asked to get into the festive spirit with a collection for the Lammermuir Larder.

The community food initiative, which is based in Haddington, was set up to support individuals and families in the area who are struggling financially to feed themselves.

Sue Cook, headteacher at Knox Academy, encouraged people to help out.

She said: “Our community approach to giving these food gifts can make a huge difference to many people and also provide a meal for families on Christmas Day.”

The school is also hosting a Christmas jumper day tomorrow (Friday). Staff and pupils are encouraged to don a festive jumper or something brightly coloured for the day.
