A TRANENT man has been allowed to keep his driving licence after he admitted reversing a car towards a man during an incident in Edinburgh last August.

Last Friday, Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told Kirk Scott currently had six penalty points on his driving licence and a further six would see him banned from the road and result in him losing his employment.

Solicitor Stuart Carson said that any road ban would also “affect his ability to support his family” and asked Sheriff Chris Dickson not to impose that level of punishment.

Mr Carson added that 28-year-old Scott “regrets the incident”, which took place at the city’s Hailes Park, and the offence was “out of character” for him.

The court had previously heard that Scott and co-accused Kevin Allan, 30, became involved in an incident involving several men on August 10 last year.

When police arrived, Scott was found to be in possession of an offensive weapon, namely a wrench, and Allan, of Lochend, Edinburgh, was found to be carrying a baseball bat.

Scott, of Northfield, also pleaded guilty to driving carelessly by reversing towards an unknown male, causing him to take evasive action to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

Scott was handed five penalty points, meaning he will keep his licence, and was told he must complete 135 hours of unpaid work.

Co-accused Allan was placed on supervision for 12 months and sentenced to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
