A TAXI operator has been fined for deliberately coughing at a woman during last year’s Covid-19 lockdown in East Lothian.

Douglas Gray stood trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where he was found guilty of repeatedly coughing in the direction of Carey Douglas.

Gray, of The Square, Spott, was found to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner towards Ms Douglas and placed her in a state of fear and alarm.

Gray, a taxi operator and also operations director of Dunbar United Football Club, was found guilty of also causing the woman alarm for her health and safety, during the Government Covid-19 lockdown, on March 29 last year.

Gray, 65, denied the allegation against him but was found guilty after he stood trial at the Capital court on November 19.

Following the evidence, he was fined a total of £840.

Gray was found guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner during a period of Government regulation and lockdown due to Covid-19 and repeatedly and deliberately coughing in the direction of Carey Douglas, placing her in a state of fear and alarm, and alarm for her health and safety, at High Road, Spott, on March 29 last year.
