A COUNTY man has been ordered to attend sessions with a domestic abuse organisation after admitting assaulting his ex-partner.

John Reid seized the woman by the hair and dragged her from a property at East Loan in Prestonpans earlier this year.

Reid kicked the woman to the body and caused her to fall to the ground to her injury during the attack.

Reid committed the offence after he had previously been issued with a non-harassment order which banned him from contacting the woman following a separate offence.

The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and was sentenced on Tuesday.

Solicitor Mary Moultrie said that her client was currently serving a 12-month non-harassment order.

The lawyer added that Reid and the woman’s relationship was now over but they had a child together.

Sheriff Thomas Welsh QC placed Reid on a 30-month supervision order and told him he must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the community.

The sheriff also said that Reid, who lives in Musselburgh, must attend appointments with the Caledonian Men’s Programme, which is designed to address his domestic abuse.

Sheriff Welsh told Reid, of Goose Green Court, that if he breached any of the sentence “it is virtually certain” he would be sent to prison.

A non-harassment order for the length of the supervision order was also imposed on Reid, though the sheriff said that this could be relaxed for childcare arrangements.

Reid pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-partner at an address at East Loan, Prestonpans, on September 17.

He also admitted breaching a non-harassment order imposed on August 23 by contacting the woman on September 17.
