TRANENT's only Indian restaurant has closed its doors for good after two decades of service due to sudden staff shortages.
Altaf Khan's self-named restaurant on Tranent's High Street has been in operation since 1999.
The premises was rented out for nine years from 2007 to 2016.
The business was previously called Kashmir Valley, changing to Altaf Khan Restaurant in 2016.
A plan to create a takeaway kitchen to the rear of the restaurant, submitted to East Lothian Council in early October, has since been withdrawn.
A second set of plans, to turn the 65-seater restaurant into two houses – one with three bedrooms and the other with four – has been granted planning permission.
Altaf Khan, 63, owner, said: "I would like to thank everyone for their continued loyalty and business with Altaf Khan restaurant for over two decades.
"I would have preferred to give notice in advance.
"Sadly due to sudden staff shortage and health reasons I am forced to close business from October 25.
"If I mentioned names there would be a big list but in short I would like to thank you all and you all will be sadly missed."
