A PLAN for a new multi-million-pound primary school at Whitecraig to provide a “modern learning environment” has taken a step forward.

Public consultation about the new school will be held as part of a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) which has been lodged by East Lothian Council.

The council has allocated £14.2 million for the project within its approved capital plan.

It is proposed to build a new school with integrated early years and associated open space, landscaping and infrastructure next to the existing school on Whitecraig Crescent, which would then be demolished.

A council spokesperson said: “Plans are afoot for an initial online consultation event. This will offer the school community and local people the opportunity to comment on the early proposals. Feedback will help inform the final planning application, which will be the subject of more detailed consultation.

“Construction of a new school, to replace the existing building nearby, is being supported through the Scottish Government’s Infrastructure Investment Plan.”

The details of the consultation event are yet to be confirmed.
