A SECTION of the A1 will be closed overnight for a week at the end of the month to allow 2.3km of carriageway to be resurfaced.

BEAR Scotland will work on the stretch of road between Dolphingstone and Wallyford junctions.

The work will take place during the night and will result in the closure of the westbound carriageway of the A1 between both junctions from 8pm to 6am each night, from October 26 to November 2.

A diversion, taking motorists onto the A199 and A6094, will be signposted between the two junctions.

The diversion will add approximately six minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the road during these works to ensure the safety of our road workers and motorists; however, we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight and at weekends to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Emergency services and other stakeholders have been consulted in advance and strict physical distancing protocols are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site, in line with Scottish Government guidance.
