POTENTIALLY life-saving equipment is set to find a home in a growing village.

Plans have been approved East Lothian Council to see a defibrillator put up outside Pencaitland and Winton Bowling Club, in Pencaitland Park.

The defibrillator will be one of two in the village, with the other planned for outside the Spar, although that does not need planning permission.

Ralph Averbuch, chairman of Pencaitland Community Council, felt that it made sense to have one at each end of the village.

He added: β€œIt is better we have the defibrillators and never need to use them than the other way round.”

The machines, which are designed to be easy to use, assess the heart rhythm and only instruct someone to deliver a shock if it is needed.

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest.

The defibrillator will be housed in a cabinet outside the bowling club and be accessible to the public at any time.
