SIGNS promoting the upcoming opening of Haddington’s first retail park are being considered by East Lothian Council.
A totem pole – featuring Aldi, Home Bargains, The Food Warehouse, Costa Coffee and Euro Garages – makes up the latest application for the proposed development at Gateside, on the town’s western edge.
Space is left on the drawing for the name of the business which will move into the fifth unit.
The totem pole would be sited at the entrance to the shopping area, off the B6471.
The retail park, which will feature more than 250 parking spaces, was previously named Haddington Retail Park, despite concerns from the town’s community council about the potential impact on the town centre.
However, the latest proposals, which have been lodged with the council’s planning department, show the area instead named as ‘Gateside West Retail Park’.
The drawings are not confirmation of any change to the name.
Costa, which also has a branch in the town’s Tesco store, is set to open within a matter of weeks.
Meanwhile, Aldi confirmed its store – a replacement for the existing shop off Whittingehame Drive – would open in the autumn.
Home Bargains is due to open in October, with The Food Warehouse aiming to open in “late summer”.
