DOG poo, superglue and paint have been used to vandalise the Costa Coffee cafe in North Berwick.

When staff arrived at the coffee shop this morning (Wednesday), they found that the windows had been covered in yellow paint, with graffiti scribbled including the words ‘love’ and ‘you’.

The locks were superglued, while dog poo was smeared on the front door – more dog dirt was also left on the ground at the bottom of the door.

The vandalism took place overnight between yesterday evening (Tuesday) and this morning (Wednesday).

The store was closed this morning (Wednesday) and reopened later this afternoon at about 2pm.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson said:  “We can confirm that our store in North Berwick, East Lothian, was closed this morning following some vandalism overnight.

"The police have been notified and we’re pleased to say that the store is now back open for trading.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this morning’s closure may have caused.”

The incident was met with shock and anger from local residents.

Nearby coffee business Steampunk said: "So sad to see this has happened in North Berwick, sending support and solidarity to the team at the NB shop."

Commenting on social media, some called the vandalism “disgusting behaviour”, while others said it was “absolutely shocking and disgraceful”.
