CORONAVIRUS cases in East Lothian are at their highest since the start of the pandemic, with more than 200 recorded in the latest seven-day period.

Here is all the latest data from Public Health Scotland explained.

 

Latest figures

 

Between June 12 and 18, a total of 223 cases were recorded in East Lothian.

This gives the county a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 population of 208.2 and a test positivity rate of 5.3 per cent.

This is the highest seven-day rate East Lothian has recorded since the start of the pandemic in spring last year. The previous highest rate in the county had been 181.2 per 100,000 population, which was recorded in December last year.

 

Areas of concern

 

The current areas of concern are listed below, in order of the number of coronavirus cases, from highest to lowest. Where two places have the same number of cases, the one with the lower population (and therefore the higher infection rate) is listed first:

  • Wallyford/Whitecraig – 29 cases, seven-day positive rate of 420.2
  • Prestonpans West – 19 cases, seven-day positive rate of 335.3
  • Tranent South – 17 cases, seven-day positive rate of 282.3
  • Prestonpans East – 16 cases, seven-day positive rate of 373.5
  • Musselburgh North – 15 cases, seven-day positive rate of 308.3
  • Longniddry and Aberlady – 15 cases, seven-day positive rate of 262.4
  • Cockenzie – 14 cases, seven-day positive rate of 245.9
  • Musselburgh South –13 cases, seven-day positive rate of 283
  • Musselburgh East – 13 cases, seven-day positive rate of 271.5
  • Tranent North – 11 cases, seven-day positive rate of 161.1
  • East Linton and Rural – nine cases, seven-day positive rate of 164.8
  • Ormiston – eight cases, seven-day positive rate of 269.5
  • Dunbar East – eight cases, seven-day positive rate of 171.6
  • Dunbar West – seven cases, seven-day positive rate of 127.9
  • Haddington Rural – seven cases, seven-day positive rate of 110.4
  • North Berwick North – four cases, seven-day positive rate of 123.6
  • Haddington North – four cases, seven-day positive rate of 90.8
  • Gullane and Drem – four cases, seven-day positive rate of 90.8
  • North Berwick South – four cases, seven-day positive rate of 85.2

The last three areas of the county – Haddington South, Musselburgh West and Pinkie Braes – each recorded fewer than two cases of Covid-19 each.

On Thursday and Friday (June 17 and 18), more than 40 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in East Lothian on each day.

 

Deaths

 

The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the county remains unchanged.

The last recorded death was on March 27.

 

Vaccinations

 

In East Lothian, 73,064 people have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine up to yesterday (Sunday). This equals 85.7 per cent of the population.

A total of 54,457 people have received their second dose, or 63.9 per cent of the population.

All of the county’s residents over the age of 55 have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

For 50-54-year-olds, 95.7 per cent have received at least one dose. The number is 88.4 per cent for 40-49-year-olds, 82.7 per cent for 30-39-year-olds, and 33 per cent for 18-29-year-olds.

 

Across Scotland

 

In Scotland there were 1,250 newly reported cases of Covid-19 in the latest 24-hour period.

There were no deaths recorded, with 14 people currently in intensive care and 158 in hospital.

NHS Lothian had server problems over the weekend so has not been able to report data in time for publication. Saturday’s figures were carried forward, with the issue resolved and updated figures included tomorrow.
