THE places where East Lothian residents with no Covid-19 symptoms can go to get a test for the virus over the next week have been confirmed.

A permanent testing centre remains open at the former Stoneyhill Community Centre in Musselburgh, near Musselburgh Rugby Club, for residents with no symptoms, including a fever, cough, or loss or change of taste or smell.

The centre is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 6pm; no appointment is required and residents can get tested more than once.

Those with symptoms must book their test at one of the dedicated testing centres for those displaying symptoms.

Almost one in three people with the virus don’t realise they are infected and could be passing the virus on, especially to younger people who have not yet had the vaccine.

With new cases of the virus still being reported in East Lothian, several testing options continue to be in place locally.

Mobile testing units, operating from 10am to 6pm, are as follows:

  • Friday, June 18: Dunbar Leisure Pool; Loch Centre, Tranent; North Berwick Community Centre; John Muir House, Haddington.
  • Saturday, June 19; Sunday, June 20: Dunbar Leisure Pool; Loch Centre, Tranent.
  • Monday, June 21: Dunbar Leisure Pool; Port Seton Centre; Loch Centre, Tranent; John Muir House, Haddington.
  • Tuesday, June 22; Wednesday, June 23; Thursday, June 24: Dunbar Leisure Pool; The Mercat Bar and Grill, Whitecraig; Loch Centre, Tranent; John Muir House, Haddington.
  • Friday, June 25: Dunbar Leisure Pool; Port Seton Centre; Loch Centre, Tranent; John Muir House, Haddington.
  • Saturday, June 26; Sunday, June 27: Dunbar Leisure Pool; Loch Centre, Tranent.

Appointments are not needed to attend a mobile unit, but they are preferable to save time.

Bookings can be made from 6pm on the day prior to getting tested at: gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or on 0300 303 2713.

When asked why you are booking a test, select ‘my local council or health protection team has asked me to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms’.

People with no symptoms can also order delivery of a test kit to their home.

A number of pharmacies in East Lothian have stocks of rapid lateral flow test kits, which are suitable for home testing if people have no symptoms – you can check your nearest collection point online.

If someone does have symptoms, they will be required to book a test elsewhere.
