THE number of coronavirus cases in East Lothian are at their highest since the first week of January.

The data from Public Health Scotland reveals that between June 5 and 11, East Lothian recorded 144 cases of Covid-19.

This means the seven-day rate per 100,000 population is sitting at 134.5 and the test positivity rate at 3.8 per cent.

The recent figures are not the highest this year but are on par with the numbers recorded in the first week of the year, just after lockdown was introduced to combat a surge of cases across the country.

The highest number of cases recorded in East Lothian this year is for the period between December 30 and January 5, when 178 cases were recorded and the seven-day positive rate per 100,000 population was 166.2. The test positivity rate at that time was nine per cent.

The county is split in 22 different zones and in the last week only six recorded fewer than two cases each.

Dunbar saw a spike in cases over the past week; these have declined but now other parts of the county are going down the same path.
