PART of the A1 is to close tonight (Wednesday) for resurfacing works.

The eastbound (southbound) carriageway between Abbotsview Junction near Haddington and Thistly Cross Roundabout near Dunbar will be closed from tonight (Wednesday) until Friday, from 8pm until 6am each night. The closure ends at 6am on Saturday morning.

A diversion route will be in place via the A199, adding an extra three minutes to affected journeys.

The emergency services will be given access through the works at all times, with local access for residents within the closure points when safe to do so.

The work is being carried out by BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential we close the road during these works to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists; however, we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight and at weekends to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding while we do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
