CHILDREN returning to Preston Tower Primary School after the summer holidays will be welcomed by a new headteacher.

Tim Wallace will take the helm at the Prestonpans school, which is home to more than 875 pupils, including youngsters at nursery, in August.

He was named as the preferred candidate following a successful recruitment campaign.

In the meantime, Preston Tower will continue to be led by Sheona Skinner, from Longniddry Primary School, who has been undertaking the temporary acting headteacher role working alongside the school’s four depute headteachers.

Mr Wallace, who is headteacher at Harrysmuir Learning Community in Livingston, replaces previous headteacher Alison Cookson.

Councillor Fiona Dugdale, cabinet member for education and children’s services, welcomed the appointment. She said: “He will be well supported in the role by his staff and parent communities as well as our education family.

“I’d also like to record our thanks to Miss Skinner for undertaking the short-term acting headteacher role in order to provide leadership to the school during the summer term and to Preston Tower’s four depute headteachers who have shared the leadership responsibilities in order to provide continuity for the school community.”
