A NEW farmers’ market will be held monthly at Newhailes House & Gardens at Musselburgh, starting on June 19.

The events will be held in the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) visitor attraction’s new stables courtyard on the third Saturday of each month from 9am to 3pm.

A spokesperson for the NTS said the markets would feature about 16 stalls, with care taken to ensure high-quality products were sold and that there were not stalls offering similar items.

The stalls will include a florist and a bakery and sell meat, deli goods, wine and beer. The full list will be made available on the Newhailes Facebook page later this week.

Dixie Sudron, visitor services supervisor at Newhailes, said: “We are delighted to be holding a farmers’ market at Newhailes within our new Stables Courtyard. This is something we have wanted to do for a while and now is the perfect time to provide a place for the community to shop local produce.”

Anyone who would like a stall should contact Dixie at dsudron@nts.org.uk

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 people attended Saturday’s Haddington Farmers’ Market.

Changes have been made to the monthly market, held on Court Street, due to the coronavirus outbreak. As well as masks and social distancing, a one-way system is in place.

Councillor Shamin Akhtar said: “Another successful Haddington Farmers’ Market today with over 1,012 visitors. That’s 100 up from last month!

“Well done to Haddington Rotary volunteers and Councillor John McMillan, who were out in full force to ensure that it ran safely.”
