ROADWORKS are taking place on one of Tranent’s main roads from Monday.

A section of Elphinstone Road is being resurfaced between the Caponhall Road and Miller Court junctions.

Work on a raised table at the Caponhall Road junction is to follow.

Both sets of roadworks are being carried out by East Lothian Council’s roads team and are expected to run until June 15.

The first week will see temporary traffic lights in place but the second set of roadworks will require the road to be closed.

Meanwhile, at the most recent meeting of Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, members were told that, despite concerns being raised about its condition, Edinburgh Road would not see any improvements this financial year.

The road, in the west of the town, was described by community councillor Robert McNeill as a road which had “deteriorated very quickly over a short period of time”.

He suggested that the reasons for the poor condition of the road could be due to the winter weather and heavy snow earlier this year, as well as the volume of traffic using the road.

A council spokesperson said that the local authority’s roads team carried out regular inspections of all the roads in East Lothian and they were categorised for future work, but was not aware of any concerns over the condition of Edinburgh Road.

Simon Davie, area manager for Fa'side Area Partnership, said that if community council members had concerns about Edinburgh Road they should write to East Lothian Council's roads department, which would carry out an investigation and confirm if work would be carried out or not.

He said he would contact the roads team, asking that they carry out an investigation and let the community council know the outcome.
