TWO East Lothian swimming pools are to close once again within the same week to allow maintenance work to be completed.

enjoyleisure welcomed back customers to North Berwick and Musselburgh swimming pools on May 14, following months of closure due to both the ongoing works and lockdown.

The pools were both modernised with new floating floors and booms installed.

When the facilities reopened, a maximum depth of 1.6 metres was in place and customers were told that more work was needed to make the new booms fully operational.

The engineering contractors are to return to each pool with the necessary components and materials, which have been custom designed and made for enjoyleisure, and complete the installation.

In order to complete the works, specialist sub-contractor diving teams are also scheduled to be in each pool. As a result, both the North Berwick and Musselburgh venues will need to temporarily close.

Musselburgh's swimming pool will be closed between June 7 and 10, while in North Berwick the pool will be closed between June 10 and 13. The other facilities in each building will still be available.

All of the other pools in East Lothian – in Dunbar, Haddington, Tranent and Prestonpans – will be open and available for use.

Once the boom is fully operational, enjoyleisure will be able to provide variable pool depths for classes and swimming lessons, reinstate family tanks and increase the depth of the pool to provide access to the diving blocks during club sessions.

Bill Axon, enjoyleisure chief executive, said: “We would like to once again express our sincere thanks for our customers' patience and understanding during the upgrade of the pool facilities at Musselburgh and North Berwick.

“We fully appreciate that a further interruption of swimming pool access will cause some frustration for our customers.

“However, both our maintenance partners, East Lothian Council and the engineering contractors are confident this final stage will resolve our outstanding snagging issues.

“I sincerely apologise for any disappointment and inconvenience caused.”
