A DATE for community buildings to reopen their doors has still to be confirmed.

Village and town halls across East Lothian have been shut due to the coronavirus crisis.

Members of Haddington and District Community Council had revealed they were keen for the town’s Corn Exchange to be reopened ahead of plans for any events this summer. The building, on the town’s Court Street, has been closed for more than two years as part of an £800,000 refurbishment. Works include repairing the building’s roof and timber flooring in the main hall.

A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council was unable to provide a date for when the building could be opened again.

She said: “We’re taking a phased approach to reopening council-owned community buildings, prioritising key activities, as facilities management (cleaning and caretaking) resources allow and in accordance with Scottish Government Covid guidelines, to ensure health and safety of our staff and customers.”
