AN EXTENSION to one of East Lothian’s newer primary schools has been given the green light.
East Lothian Council’s planning department approved the changes at Tranent’s Windygoul Primary School following no objections from members of the public.
The school, which opened in 2007, will be extended to allow for additional capacity for youngsters attending nursery.
When the plans were submitted, a spokeswoman for the local authority confirmed the work was due to get under way later this year, with the hope it would be complete by summer next year.
She said: “The extension to Windygoul Primary School is needed to meet increased demand for nursery spaces and offer expanded provision under 1,140 hours [Scottish Government policy].
“The new space will increase capacity from 70 to a potential 120 early learning and childcare places within the school.”
Two new nursery rooms will be created alongside additional toilets while, under East Lothian Council’s plans, changes will also be made outside to see the playground redesigned.
A further extension is planned for the school, on Brotherstone’s Way, with land left aside as part of the plan for more than 500 new homes at Windygoul South.
