OVERNIGHT roadworks will take place along the A1 throughout much of April.

Reflective road studs and improvements to the road surface will take place over 16 nights, with work getting under way on Tuesday.

The works are split into two phases and will take place overnight from Tuesday to April 19, with the second phase taking place from April 27-30.

Each set of works will take place from 7.30pm to 6am, with no works planned for Saturday nights.

The project will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland making improvements to road markings and reflective road studs, with road surfacing work north of the Thistly Cross roundabout, near Dunbar.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public, sections of the A1 will be closed during the works on the dates detailed in the table below.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These overnight improvement works will improve safety for motorists using the A1 between Edinburgh and Dunbar.

“We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise any disruption, however we encourage motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys if they do need to travel on these nights.”

Consultation has already been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and to share information about the project in advance.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times and local access for residents living within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.
