A BUS driver has issued an emotional appeal after he had a rock thrown through his window while at the wheel of a double decker bus.

The driver, who has not been named, had the rock thrown through the driver cab window during an eight hour long shift that ran from 2pm-10pm.

Despite thankfully emerging uninjured the driver realised that the lasting effects of the incident were not physical and it instead had a severe impact on his mental health.

Through an appeal by Lothian Buses and Police Scotland, he has highlighted in a powerful video the lasting impact that antisocial behaviour, and incidents like the one he experienced, can have on bus drivers.

Sarah Boyd, operations director at Lothian Buses, said: “Our colleagues on the frontline have the right to work without fear for their safety.

“This video highlights the true human cost that incidents of antisocial behaviour or violence can have on individuals.

“These mindless acts can be life-changing for everyone involved and we would appeal to anyone with information relating to these incidents to report details to Police Scotland.”

Sadly this is not the only antisocial behaviour-related incident on buses recently.

Last month a youth was charged following complaints of youngsters, some of which were on electric scooters, behaving dangerously in Prestonpans.

Police in East Lothian said that the youths had been hitting emergency stop buttons on buses in the town and harassing drivers and passengers.

The behaviour was described a “extremely dangerous” by police.
