A TRIAL aimed at creating safe access around Fisherrow Harbour has been put on hold to address the issue of vandalism.

One of the priorities of the Fisherrow Harbour and Seafront Association (FHSA) is making the seafront area more pedestrian-friendly, so temporary barriers were installed to separate pedestrians from cars before a more permanent solution is put in place.

However, some vandalism was experienced, with the barriers being knocked over and piled up.

The association is looking for ways to overcome this to create a safe and continuous Promenade walkway as soon as possible.

A spokesman for the group said: “We’ve paused the trial at the moment to address the issue of vandalism and also source different equipment.

“We used barriers that East Lothian Council had in stock but these could be easily moved by the public, causing confusion of others and also were easily blown over by the wind.

“After we removed the barriers, the lovely weather drew a large number of cars and pedestrians to the area and highlighted the need for a layout that keeps pedestrians safe along the Promenade.”
