A WHITECRAIG motorist has been banned from the road after he was caught driving a vehicle along an Edinburgh street with a missing front tyre.

Michael McNaught, of Whitecraig Avenue, was spotted driving dangerously, without an offside front tyre, on the Capital’s Ferry Road on October 12, 2019.

McNaught, 28, was also found to be unfit to drive the vehicle due to drink or drugs when officers pulled him over near to the scene.

McNaught pleaded guilty to three offences during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last year and was sentenced last Thursday.

Sheriff Adrian Fraser banned McNaught from driving for 12 months and told him he must complete the extended driving test before he is allowed back on the road.

He was also fined £135 and placed on a restriction of liberty order where he has to wear an electronic tag and stay within his home address between 7pm and 7am for 80 days.

McNaught admitted driving a vehicle dangerously in that it had a tyre missing and to driving while unfit to do so at Ferry Road, Edinburgh, on October 12, 2019.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer by kicking him on the body while he was being arrested at Pilton Drive, Edinburgh, on the same date.
