AN HONORARY member of Tranent Rotary Club dipped into his pocket so £100 of food and necessities could go to East Lothian Foodbank.

Bob Anderson, who lives in Longniddry and is in his 90s, is long retired but remains an honorary member.

Moved by the plight of families throughout East Lothian due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he approached Rotary club president James Bruce to offer a gift of £100 – with the proviso it be used to buy food and goods for the foodbank, which is based in the town.

Club members Jim and Margaret Tait carried out Bob’s request by using his kind donation to pay for and deliver two trolley loads of food and goods to the foodbank.

Angus Paterson, a Tranent Rotarian, said: “Bob was a very active member of Tranent Rotary for many years but age catches up on everyone and he retired from normal membership and was granted honorary membership.

“He still keeps in contact, attending some meetings, and at some events will play his violin, especially at Christmas and Burns evenings.

“Bob is a very generous person showing empathy towards those in need.

“He is a gentleman in the real meaning of the word.”
