PUPILS at North Berwick High School have gained an insight into the workings of a local campervan conversion business thanks to a video tour.

Staff at Jerba Campervans showcased their skills, knowledge and workshop as part of a national work experience initiative.

The digital work placement programme, set up by Gateway Shared Services, enables school pupils to gain work experience and business insight remotely.

Jerba’s current apprentices produced a video that gave an overview of the organisation and the career paths each of them took; it forms part of the Halfland Barns-based business’ incentive to engage with the local community and share its employee ownership model with other businesses.

One apprentice behind the video is former chef Gareth Jones.

The 25-year-old, a former NBHS pupil, joined the firm last year with no experience in the industry and reassured the pupils that it was not all about getting into university.

He said: “We wanted to produce a video which showed pupils that you don’t have to go to university to get an engaging job.

“Doing this video is a small part of us giving back to the local community.”

The digital work placement programme encourages businesses to set work projects and mock interviews for youngsters to allow them to engage in work experience.
