LOCAL wartime heroes feature in a window display at a Tranent funeral parlour to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The Co-operative Funeralcare on High Street put the display together last week, ahead of Remembrance Sunday, and it will remain until the end of this week.

The parlour produced its first window display for Remembrance last year.

This year, staff thought they would not have a window display but, due to the lack of events to commemorate Remembrance Day, they decided to put one together.

Lee Stewart, funeral director, said: “Because parades and things were cancelled, we thought it would be good to get one up.

“We did a display last year, which was our first ever one, and it was a great success. People were saying they couldn’t wait to see next year’s one.

“Last year we had a display inside the store but we couldn’t do one this year; we have a closed door policy in place at the moment so couldn’t have people coming in and out all the time.”

The display consists of soldiers’ uniforms and pictures of local people who have served in war.

It also features pebbles painted with poppies that will either be placed on war graves throughout East Lothian or at the local war memorial.

Pictures were gathered from all over the county – including Tranent, Ormiston, Haddington, Pencaitland and Gifford – printed off and put up in a collage display.

The display is extra special for Lee as it features some of her grandparents, all of whom served in the Second World War.

Lee said: “If it wasn’t for these people, we wouldn’t be here.

“If we can remember these people and the fact they fought for us to be here, we will.”
