ACHIEVEMENTS of hard-working pupils at Dunbar Grammar School have been recognised in a special ceremony.

The secondary school held its annual prizegiving before the October break, before broadcasting the event on the internet.

As well as students receiving prizes for their hard work in subjects throughout the year, there was also a number of entertaining performances put on.

Claire Slowther, headteacher at Dunbar Grammar School, described the awards event as “a really important occasion”.

She said: “It offers us a chance to celebrate the many achievements of our talented and dedicated students.

“It is always a celebratory affair with lots of entertainment. This year, we felt it was really important to continue with this tradition but also to explore options of being able to open it up to a wider audience.

“The team of staff and students did an incredible job organising the day, filming the event and editing it together. Many hours were spent planning and finalising this.

“The event was recorded and then edited into the final extravaganza!

“On the last day of term, the whole school watched the event in class.

“We loved the musical performances from our talented students.

“It was wonderful to see so many students receive awards and recognition for a range of achievements.

“Just like everything in 2020, our ceremony was a little different.

“However, in DGS 2020 style, the event was different but extra special. Our students showed that they have RISEN to the challenges and shone bright. I am so proud of them.”
