A TRANENT man who assaulted a supermarket worker has been ordered to pay him compensation.
Martin Ahmed, or Loftus, struck Asda employee David Welsh on the head during an incident at the store in the town earlier this year.
Ahmed, of Northfield, admitted the attack at an earlier court hearing and returned to the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.
Solicitor Neil Martin said that his unemployed client had admitted the assault in April and had been of good behaviour since then.
Sheriff John Cook said that assaulting an employee in the course of their employment was “a serious matter” and noted that Ahmed had a previous conviction for assault.
The sheriff ordered Ahmed, 34, to pay Mr Welsh £500 in compensation.
Ahmed admitted assaulting David Welsh by striking him to the head to his injury at Asda, High Street, Tranent, on April 13.
