A DANCE-LOVING lady celebrates her 100th birthday on Tuesday.

Mary Archibald (nee Reilly) was born in the Winchburgh area of West Lothian but lived in Prestonpans her whole adult life.

She is well known and loved in the town and was a member of the tea dance group at Prestonpans Community Centre, showing off her best moves until she was 98 years old.

Although dancing was one of Mary’s main passions, she also enjoyed going to the bingo.

She was married to late husband John, with the pair having three sons: Alexander, Michael and John.

The former army cadet now lives at Fidra Nursing Home, North Berwick, where she moved about one and a half years ago.

Being in a nursing home has not stopped her from dancing, with Mary still showing off her best moves to staff and fellow residents.

Plans were made to celebrate Mary’s big day with a tea party, with staff from the community centre offering their assistance.

Daniel Baigrie, community development officer at Port Seton and Prestonpans community centres, said: “On behalf of the Prestonpans Tea Dance, we wish you a very happy birthday.

“It is hard that we cannot be with you or ask you to come up to Prestonpans.”
