SIXTY years of married bliss have been celebrated by a well-known Haddington couple.

James and Isobel Peaston were married on September 24, 1960, in Ormiston Parish Church.

The couple went to school together in Ormiston before getting together at “the dances”.

Daughter Linda said: “My mum was the dinner lady at Knox Academy for years and years. She has fed literally thousands of children at the school.

“Just before my dad retired, he was caretaker at the Town House in Haddington.”

Shortly after marrying, the couple moved to Mayfield before setting up home in Haddington about 50 years ago.

Mr and Mrs Peaston live on the town’s Acredales.

Originally, the plan for the diamond wedding anniversary was to be surrounded by family and friends.

However, coronavirus-related restrictions meant the celebrations had to be scaled down.

Linda, 52, added: “I took them for afternoon tea at Carberry Tower Mansion House. I also took them back to Ormiston Church where they were married.”

The couple, both 82 years old, also have a son, Brian, 49, as well as four grandchildren: Lucy, Rebecca, Carrie and Layla.

They also have three step grandchildren – Kirsten, Calum and Lynsey – as well as a step great grandchild, Luca.
